The Trade College is excited to be offering a School-Based Traineeship program for senior students who are passionate about embarking on a career in the health industry.

Students will have the opportunity to study on-site and in real world learning environments and gain first-hand experience in acute hospital and healthcare settings, working alongside qualified healthcare professionals.

Studying with ATCNB

Following a successful interview with an exclusive ATCNB host employer, students will undertake two days of on-the-job learning and complete a Certificate III in Health Services or Certificate III in Individual Support with a registered training organisation.

Our students will learn contemporary best practice and have a rare opportunity to access the Trade College flagship industry placement program to gain experience across our range of carefully chosen hospital, aged care and community care partners.

The program is designed to give students the ability to develop an understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, communication and team work, and establish a solid foundation on which to build their healthcare career after Year 12.

The program will deliver a Certificate III in Health Services or Certificate III in Individual Support in Year 12 with School-Based Traineeship pathway opportunities.

The Certificate III in Health Services or Certificate III in Individual Support courses gives you a huge range of options. The Trade College Industry Liaison Officers will help guide you. Our ILOs hold a minimum qualification of a Certificate IV in Career Development, allowing them to provide professional career counselling.

Course Structure

Program Delivery

The program is open to Year 11 and Year 12 students.

Year 11 & Year 12 – Two days per week over twelve months (four terms). Weekly homework tasks.

Compulsory placements in line with the Trade College’s industry work experience program.

Vocational Placement Program

The Australian Trade College North Brisbane’s flagship Industry Engagement Work Experience / Vocational Placements Program sets us apart from other schools. Students engage with regular extended blocks of work experience to support their selected trade career. Discover more about our student work experience program.

During Certificate II & III there will be compulsory blocks of extensive, practical, hands-on, health immersive experience to expose students to the various tasks and skills as a healthcare professional.

Health Experience days will cover:

  • personal cares including bed bath / showers / shaving and feeding of patients
  • emergency care
  • basic nursing cares including wound management
  • vital signs and communication activities

Our HLT23215 Certificate II in Health Support Services & HLT33115 Certificate III in Health Services Assistance courses are offered by Mater Education (RTO #5210) and delivered at the Australian Trade College North Brisbane (Scarborough).

HLT23215 Certificate II in Health Support Services

Gain valuable experience in a healthcare setting and learn about infection control, patient safety, first aid and other foundational care principles. The course will take twelve months (four terms).

 

HLT33015 Certificate III in Health Services Assistance

The Certificate III in Health Services Assistance course will arm you with the knowledge and skills needed to work in a range of assistant-style roles—from jobs as a patient care attendant or an assistant in nursing, through to orderly and wardsperson positions.

Play a key role in supporting front-line healthcare workers as an acute care assistant, patient care attendant, orderly or wards person. The course runs for 1 Semester (two terms).

Key areas of learning and skills development include:

  • interpreting and applying medical terminology
  • anatomy and physiology
  • working in health and community services
  • infection prevention and control

Course Fees

The Trade College Health Services course fee is $1000, in addition to the standard College Fees.
