Whether it be a builder estimating the quantity of materials needed for a job, a stylist using ratios to mix hair colour or a mechanic preparing a quote; all tradespeople need a strong foundation in ‘Essential Mathematics’ – the underpinning numeracy skills and knowledge required to be successful in their trade careers and, more broadly, their lives.
All ATCNB students undertake Essential Mathematics, a program that awards students four credits towards their Queensland Certificate in Education. Our specialist team of maths teachers have contextualised the learning program to better suit the needs and interests of our trades-focused students. This is achieved through a greater emphasis on practical, industry-related problems requiring solutions that involve estimation, reasoning and creative thinking.
