Australian Trade College North Brisbane encourages students to achieve excellence in all facets of their lives and education. We offer a number of annual awards to celebrate student and school community achievement across a broad range of areas.
Year 12 Trade College Excellence (DUX) Award
Is awarded to the top Year 12 student with the highest results in:
- Senior Academic Subjects (General and Essential English, General and Essential Mathematics, Certificate III Business and Industry Preparation);
- Trade Training;
- Industry Engagement – either work experience or apprenticeship/traineeship; and
- Exemplifies the College characteristics of – Courage, Engagement and Gratitude.
Year 11 Trade College Excellence (DUX) Award

Petrie Shield Engagement in Industry
The Petrie Shield is presented in the spirit of Andrew Petrie, after whom the Federal Electorate of Petrie is named.
The Petrie Shield, Engagement in Industry is awarded to a Year 11 student who has demonstrated excellence in their industry engagement both through work experience and/or apprenticeships and traineeships.
Petrie Shield recipients receive: A trophy, certificate and a $500 cash prize
Petrie Shield Success in Industry

AMPOL Best All Rounder
For over 25 years the AMPOL Best All Rounder has earned a reputation for being one of Australia’s most respected secondary education recognition programs. Awarded to a Year 11 student, acknowledges the student’s all-round contributions to their school and communities.
AMPOL Best All Rounder recipient receives: A special medallion, certificate and a $250 cash prize
Brendan Krause Memorial Award - For Passion And Endeavour In The Pursuit Of A Trade
The Brendan Krause Award was established in honour of Brendan, a Commercial Cookery student at the College who passed away unexpectedly in 2009 with epilepsy. The Year 11 or Year 12 recipient is chosen because they are passionate about becoming a tradesperson, do their utmost to achieve their goals and are honest and hardworking.
Brendan Krause Award recipient receives: A trophy, certificate and a $250 cash prize
Australian Defence Force Long Tan Leadership Award
The ADF Long Tan Youth Leadership and Teamwork Awards is awarded to a Year 12 student who demonstrates leadership and teamwork within both the College, and the broader local community. The award also recognises a student who displays strong values, such as doing one’s best, respect for others and “mateship”, characteristics that are integral to Australian society.
Awarded to a Year 12 student, the awards are an important initiative by the Australian Government in conjunction with the Australian Defence Force designed to encourage senior students – tomorrow’s leaders – to actively participate in the life of their schools and local communities.
ADF Award recipient receives: A trophy, certificate and a $500 cash prize
Australian Defence Force Future Innovators STEM Award
A new award from 2020, the ‘ADF Future Innovators Award’ is awarded to a Year 12 student in recognition of the recipients’ science and mathematics abilities while highlighting the value the Navy, Army and Air Force place on STEM skills and STEM career opportunities within Defence.
ADF Award recipient receives: A trophy, certificate and a $500 cash prize
QATSIF Young Indigenous Leader Award
Awarded to a current QATSIF QCE Indigenous Scholarship student in either Year 11 or 12. The student must demonstrate outstanding leadership within their community and consistently met QATSIF’s Student Eligibility Criteria.
QATSIF Award recipient receives: A special medallion, certificate and a $250 cash prize
Senior Academic Studies Excellence and Commendation Awards
The individual Senior Academic Studies Excellence and Commendation Awards are presented to a student who has not only achieved the highest results in an Senior Studies subject/course, but also:
- Shown a keen and positive attitude towards learning through their effort and behaviour
- Completes tasks to a high quality
- Works well with others and is helpful
- High levels of attendance
Excellence Award recipients receive: A trophy, certificate and a $50 cash prize
Commendation Award recipients receive: A medallion and certificate
Trade Training Excellence and Commendation Awards
The individual trade Excellence and Commendation Awards are presented to a student who best:
- Shows a keen and positive attitude towards learning their trade
- Completes tasks to a high quality
- Works well with others and is helpful
- Engages in industry (either work experience or apprenticeship/traineeship)
- Works safely and follows all relevant policies and procedures
Excellence Award recipients receive: A trophy, certificate and a $50 cash prize
Commendation Award recipients receive: A medallion and certificate
